hospOS builds on results from the SMART FOREST 5G Clinics research project at Deggendorf Institute of Technology (2021–2024; funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport).

hospOS has been in real operation in two clinics since 2023: at Arberlandklinik Viechtach and at Kliniken am Goldenen Steig, Freyung (with KONE elevator integration).
