About Athegus

The Athegus founding team consisting of Sebastian Schmidt, Tobias Greiler, Stefan Fischer, and Eva Pletl received the first EXIST Research Transfer funding in the university's history. EXIST Research Transfer is the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy's funding program for research-based startups with particularly high risk and innovation potential. The program supports teams in transforming outstanding research results from universities into marketable products and services. With our project hospOS, we are developing an innovative robot management system for healthcare. The funding amounts to €740,000 and runs for 18 months. During this period, we go through two phases: First, advancing our research results to market maturity, then preparing for business launch and external financing. Athegus GmbH was founded immediately after the funding began.

We won 1st place at the IDEENREICH Business Plan Competition! IDEENREICH is the regional business plan competition for founders from Lower Bavaria, organized by BayStartUP and the Gründerzentrum Digitalisierung Niederbayern. The competition specifically promotes entrepreneurial talent from the region through active networking, training, and expert feedback. As winners, we were able to present our business model to an experienced jury and receive valuable feedback for the further development of hospOS.

We won the HOCHSPRUNG Award 2025! The HOCHSPRUNG Award is the annual competition of the Bavarian universities' entrepreneurship network, recognizing startup projects that solve societal problems. The 2025 focus was on healthcare innovations. As one of six finalists from 38 applications, we pitched live before the jury and secured 1st place. The award specifically promotes the entrepreneurial spirit at Bavarian universities and provides a platform for forward-thinking business models.

Our CEO Sebastian Schmidt gave a presentation at automatica, the world's leading trade fair for intelligent automation and robotics. Automatica takes place every two years in Munich and brings together around 800 exhibitors from 40 countries. As part of MedtecSUMMIT meets automatica, a two-day specialist congress organized by Bayern Innovativ, he spoke on the Summit Stage about "Regulation, usability and infrastructure – how can robots pass the door to healthcare?". The MedtecSUMMIT connects experts from medical technology, robotics, and AI to discuss practical applications in healthcare. In his presentation, Sebastian Schmidt demonstrated that technological innovation only creates real value in clinical practice through the combination of data protection, interoperability, and user-friendliness.
